The project, named SEAO2-CDR, focuses on evaluating various techniques, including ocean fertilization and direct air capture, to mitigate climate change impacts. Led by an international consortium of researchers, SEAO2-CDR seeks to explore the feasibility, effectiveness, and potential risks associated with ocean-based carbon dioxide removal strategies. The project aims to contribute valuable insights to climate change mitigation efforts and advance understanding of the role oceans play in sequestering atmospheric CO2, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing global environmental challenges.

The project is divided into eight work packages looking at the scientific, economic, legal, political, social, and ethical implications of it. The University of Cambridge is one of the 13 organisations who will provide expertise.  To continue reading click here.
