Arctic Repair Conference

26 Jun - 28 Jun, 2025

Arctic Repair has been proposed as a form of climate engineering that could be deployed to reduce declining sea ice over the Arctic summer. It does not address the root cause of climate change, and does not eliminate the urgent need to reduce global carbon dioxide emissions. Apart from scientific uncertainty surrounding repair techniques, there are ethical, political and social issues that also need to be addressed.

This conference, held in Cambridge, is an engaging event of discussions, research presentations and networking opportunities with the aim to bring together the latest research and ethical debates on climate repair.

Event information

2025 saw the first Arctic Repair conference, hosted in Cambridge, UK. Over 180 people came to share and discuss the latest research on solutions for a warming world, introducing approaches that could help protect the Arctic while we get emissions down. The pioneering event, which began with talks from those on the front line of climate change both in the Arctic and across the world in Tuvalu, was hosted by the Centre for Climate Repair at the University of Cambridge, in association with the University of the Arctic, and sponsored by Ocean Visions and UChicago Climate Systems Engineering Initiative.

We are pleased to be returning in September 2027 for the next Arctic Repair. We would love you to join us as we continue the conversation.
