Dr Geoff Evatt
Dr Geoff Evatt is an applied mathematician at the University of Manchester whose research specialises in glaciology. He recently led the UK’s first-ever Antarctic meteorite collection programme, called ‘The Lost Meteorites of Antarctica’. The project returned over 120 meteorites from a previously unexplored area of the Antarctic, which are now housed in the permanent collection of the Natural History Museum. He has also worked in areas of mathematical finance and looked after industrial engagements for the Department of Mathematics. Geoff took his doctorate and undergraduate degrees at the University of Oxford.
In parallel to his academic work, Geoff co-runs a commercial rewilding project in the Peak District. In so doing he has worked closely with the government department, Natural England, to help create schemes that ensure the viability of biodiversity-focused projects. Alongside a host of community volunteers, he has helped plant some 40,000 trees on his site. In 2021 Geoff was part of a small team that won a Royal Horticultural Society gold medal for a curated version of their rewilding work.
