Arctic Repair 2027
"This is my home, our home. The Arctic is an amazing place that needs a lot of help right now." Those are the words of Brandon Langan, a resident of the high Arctic. Speaking on the first morning of Arctic Repair 2025, he set the scene for a groundbreaking conference on potential solutions for a warming world.
Following its success in 2025, the Arctic Repair conference will return in September 2027 to host discussions on the latest innovations in climate cooling for a warming world.
Presented by the Centre for Climate Repair at the University of Cambridge, the three-day conference will feature thematic sessions on the science and ethics of climate cooling research to slow, or even reverse, Arctic sea ice loss. The aim is to bring together researchers, media, community representatives, and policymakers to hear about the latest progress and to discuss the intertwined ethical, social, and technical factors together.
Arctic Repair 2027 comes at a time when climate cooling research is hotly debated and increasingly urgent. The Arctic, in particular, is warming faster than anywhere else in the world and is putting a number of tipping points at risk. While the only sustainable, long-term way to protect the Arctic is through rapid emissions reductions, Repair initiatives aim to help slow the melting and the rate of sea ice loss.
2025 saw the first Arctic Repair conference, hosted in Cambridge, UK. Over 180 people came to share and discuss the latest research on solutions for a warming world, introducing approaches that could help protect the Arctic while we get emissions down. The pioneering event, which began with talks from those on the front line of climate change both in the Arctic and across the world in Tuvalu, was hosted by the Centre for Climate Repair at the University of Cambridge, in association with the University of the Arctic, and sponsored by Ocean Visions and UChicago Climate Systems Engineering Initiative.
