Climate Repair at the Arctic Circle Assembly
Our director, Prof Shaun Fitzgerald, is taking part in the Arctic Circle Assembly for 3.5 days of discussions focused on the particular issues and opportunities for the Arctic right now.
Day 1
On the first evening, he joined a panel with Páll Gunnarsson, Stefan Rahmstorf, Gemma Bale, and Katrín Jakobsdóttir. The event was titled "AMOC: Envisioning a Resilient North" and was co-hosted by Justus Lehtisaari from Operaatio Arktis and Laurie Laybourn from Strategic Climate Risks Initiative.
Day 2
A morning session on "AMOC at the Crossroads", organised by JPI Climate, JPI Ocean, Bjerknes Cen sparked conversation.
Day 3
"Yes, this is a national security issue. But politicians then need to know what potential levers they might have to reduce the risk. That is why the Centre for Climate Repair is pursuing its research projects," said Shaun Fitzgerald, following the event on "The Future of Science".
Day 4
Bright and early on Saturday morning, Shaun will moderate a panel with Bridget Shayka, Ph.D., Justus Lehtisaari, Mia Bennett, Danielle Young, and Marisol Maddox. They're discussing "Geopolitics of the response to climate change and its impacts in the Arctic".
