IPCC opinions on solar geoengineering: reaction

New Scientist have surveyed 120 IPCC contributors about their views on solar geoengineering. Our director was asked for a response.
“What I’m sensing is a greater awareness that we have not done what is necessary to properly tackle climate change,” says Shaun Fitzgerald at the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Climate Repair, commenting on the survey results. “What are our real options? We might not like them, but it’s a case of not liking those and not liking the current trajectory that we’re on.”
Opinions are, understandably, divided, and "unknown consequences" are the biggest concern for these scientists. We think that heightens the need for more research - particularly given that the majority of respondents expect deployment this century, - but what do you think?
