In The Times: Six radical ways to cool the planet
Ahead of COP30 Brazil, The Sunday Times examined six approaches to climate cooling, including three projects in which we're involved at the University of Cambridge.
"Plan A, on the face of it, was simple," writes Ben Spencer. "To stop catastrophic climate change, humanity would puff far fewer greenhouse gases into the air. Every nation in the world signed up to it after the Paris Agreement of 2015. The aim: to limit global warming to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels.
"A decade later and Plan A looks doomed. Donald Trump has pulled the US out of the Paris accord. The planet is already 1.4C hotter than it was before the Industrial Revolution.
"Quietly, scientists from around the world are drawing up a Plan B, developing blueprints for mind-boggling technologies to repair the climate."
Prof Shaun Fitzgerald, of Girton College and the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge, was quoted.
