Dr Trish Lavery
Dr Trish Lavery is a trained climate scientist and strategic foresight practitioner. Her work focuses on the governance of emerging climate technologies and the role of human behaviour in shaping how they are researched, deployed and contested. She leads a large collaborative foresight programme on the future of climate cooling technologies, delivered with the OECD, the University of Leeds, the Centre for Future Generations and the National Security College in Australia. The programme draws on scenario methods, behavioural economics and policy analysis to support anticipatory governance of high-stakes climate interventions, including solar radiation modification.
Her current affiliations include:
- Strategic Foresight Consultant, Centre for Future Generations, Brussels.
- Associate Professor (Honorary) of International Relations, Macquarie University.
- Project Director, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Australia.
- Senior Fellow in Futures and Human Behaviour, Sympodium Institute for Strategic Communications, London.
- Member, Futures Council, National Security College, Australia.
- Member, OECD Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence Futures.
- Member, UN Global Risk Report Red Team.
Trish previously served as Strategic Foresight Counsellor at the OECD, advising member states on integrating long-range thinking into policy design. She holds a PhD in climate science alongside degrees in behavioural science and biological sciences (Hons). Across her career she has been committed to placing the human dimension, why people accept, resist or misinterpret technological change, at the centre of decisions that are too often treated as purely technical.
