Edmund Reardon

Edmund commenced his PhD in the Lent term of 2022/23 and is based in the Department of Engineering. He is part of a team researching different spray techniques for marine cloud brightening (MCB), whereby sea water is sprayed to increase cloud reflectivity and cool the area below.

His particular area of research focuses on superheated atomisation which involves heating seawater to above 100 Celsius under pressure, causing it to flash boil at the exit of the MCB nozzle, atomising it into small droplets. The experiment is being developed to investigate the feasibility of scale up of this sprayer and its potential to improve on sprayers developed for MCB field trials by collaborators.
