Jacob Pantling

Jacob commenced his PhD at the Centre for Climate Repair in 2023/24 and is based at the Department of Engineering.

His topic of research is restoration of Arctic Sea Ice. Whilst summer Arctic sea ice extent has reduced by over 40% in the last half century, the average thickness has also halved. The aim of his PhD is to investigate methods for thickening sea ice to reduce, or even reverse, the current melting. Thickening the sea ice may help to protect the Arctic against global warming and prevent some of the devastating effects that could occur if the sea ice is lost.
