Nikolaos Kateris

Nick Kateris
Nikolaos Kateris is an Assistant Professor of Energy in the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge and a member of the Energy Group. He is also a Fellow and Director of Studies at Trinity College. Prior to joining the University of Cambridge, Nikolaos obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in 2024 and his BA (Hons) and MEng in Engineering from the University of Cambridge in 2018.

Nikolaos leads the Molecular Thermodynamics Lab. The lab’s research combines theory and experiments to study thermodynamics at the nanoscale, with applications in high-speed propulsion, battery safety and aerosols. Current research themes include droplet dynamics in multiphase detonation, battery thermodynamics and thermal runaway, seawater sprays for marine cloud brightening and understanding the optical and electronic properties of flame-formed carbon nanoparticles.
