Shaun Fitzgerald

Professor Shaun Fitzgerald is Director of the Centre for Climate Repair. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering who works at the interface of academic research, business, government policy and public engagement. He has deep research experience, has worked extensively in the commercialisation of new intellectual property arising from university research, and supported the UK government in the re-writing of policy documents for building standards as well as serving as an expert advisor during the Covid pandemic. In early 2023 Shaun was appointed by the UNFCCC Supervisory Body to serve as a Methodologies Expert on the Roster of Experts. Prior to joining the Centre for Climate Repair, Shaun was Director of the Royal Institution, overseeing the programme for engaging the public with science and engineering. 

Shaun has been featured on BBC’s Panorama and BBC Sounds, The Times, and The Naked Scientist, and has often been quoted in New Scientist, CNN, and USA Today.

Projects

Shaun is leading the Rethickening Arctic Sea Ice (RASI) project supported by the Advanced Research and Innovation Agency (ARIA). He also leads the Evaluation of Climate Intervention through Novel Potential Strategies (ECLIPSE) project funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). He also supports projects across the Centre.
