On one of the hottest days ever recorded in the UK in June, we were presenting ideas - totally new to some attendees - that could slow or even reverse the impacts of climate change. Our researchers are part of international teams investigating methods to cool the Earth. Through modelling and controlled, small-scale outdoor experiments, they are assessing a range of climate interventions to build a knowledge-base for informed decision-making.

Emissions reduction is central to climate mitigation and must include innovations in every sector of society to achieve net-zero emissions. As the world warms, environmental changes - such as increased emissions from wetlands and melting permafrost - alter the earth's ability to manage to greenhouse gas concentrations. There is an urgent need for society to get off fossil fuels and limit deforestation.
